Hello, friends!

Let’s talk about the HTS Code System today. In simple terms, the same product is often referred to by different names in different places. This variation in terminology can cause confusion in international trade. To resolve this issue, countries around the world have adopted a standardized classification system called the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) Code. This system assigns a unique code to each product, ensuring that everyone—whether exporters, importers, or customs officials—can understand it easily and without confusion.

This globally recognized system helps streamline trade, making it more efficient and transparent. 🌍📦

Understanding HTS Code, DBK Sr. No., and RoDTEP for Exporting Bathmats

Suppose we want to export a bathmat. The first step is to find its HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule) Code from the official HTS Code Book. For example, if we are exporting a 100% cotton handloom bathmat, its HTS Code is 57050042. This is because:

The HTS Code 5705 corresponds to handloom textile items.

  1. The specific sub-category 57050042 is for cotton-based products.

Now, when we export our product under this HTS Code, we are eligible to claim Export Duty Drawback and RoDTEP (Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products) benefits from the government. To claim these benefits, we need to use the DBK (Drawback) Sr. No., which is available in government-issued circulars. From the provided table, since our product is made of cotton, we will use DBK Sr. No. 570501.However, if our product is made of 80% cotton and 20% polyester (Handloom Bath Rugs), we will still use DBK Sr. No. 570501.

On the other hand, if our product is 100% polyester, then:

  • The HTS Code will be 57050022 (since polyester falls under synthetic/man-made fibers).
  • The DBK Sr. No. will be 570503, which corresponds to man-made fibers.

What is a Man-Made Fiber?
Man-made fibers are those that are not naturally obtained but are developed artificially through chemical processes. Examples include polyester, nylon, and acrylic.

By correctly identifying the HTS Code and the corresponding DBK Sr. No., exporters can maximize their benefits under the Duty Drawback and RoDTEP schemes. ✅
